Thomas Schmölz

Founder and Managing Director

Producer and music manager Thomas Schmölz has been active in the field of the musical avant-garde in various capacities for many years. Graduated from the University of Siegen in 2001 with a degree in media management, since then he has been producing new film scores on behalf of ZDF and ARD in collaboration with ARTE for the series "Stummfilm auf ARTE" (Silent Film on ARTE). For the now more than 90 film music productions he has worked with internationally renowned orchestras, ensembles and composers of contemporary music, most recently with Olga Neuwirth, Johannes Kalitzke, Reinhard Febel and Malte Giesen and the ensembles intercontemporain, recherche, Musikfabrik and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin. Many of his silent film productions have now been released on DVD. From 2021 he will regularly present selected ARTE productions as live film concerts under the label ARTE CinéConcert in cooperation with concert halls and film and music festivals, including Konzerthaus Berlin, Wiener Konzerthaus, WDR Funkhaus Cologne, Tafelhalle Nuremberg, Philharmonie Luxembourg. He is also interested in new music theatre. He is currently producing "Ich bin Carmen. من کارمن ھستم Und das ist kein Liebeslied" (T+R: Paul-Georg Dittrich u. Hasti Molavian, M: Tobias Schwencke, Christopher Scheuer), which will have its world premiere in Bremen. Previous productions have included "Josefine. (K)ein Liederabend nach Franz Kafka", M: Wolfgang v. Schweinitz, T+R: Hans-Jörg Kapp, premiere 2011 Kampnagel Hamburg, Music Theater NOW Selection 2012; "Sommertag", T+M: Nikolaus Brass, R: Christian Marten-Molnar, premiere 2014 Biennale Munich;). Until 2015 he directed several music festivals: Hamburger Klangwerktage - Festival für Neue Musik (2006-2008), mehrklang Festival in Freiburg (2009-2011). Most recently, as festival director, he was responsible for the third edition of the cresc...-Biennale in Frankfurt.
